Under the direct supervision of the Special Services Coordinator, provides Realtime Captioning as a support service. Records classroom lectures, meetings, and conferences verbatim/contextually accurately on stenograph machine with instantaneous translation on portable PC computer for deaf/hard of hearing students and staff; maintains and upgrades technical and academic stenographic dictionaries; Saves notes on flash-drive and gives to student. Performs other duties relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to perform minimum of 180 wpm Realtime steno-writing (literary-based text) and 200 wpm general test, with steno-based computer translation experience. Maintain dictionary of 50,000 entries with fewer than 0.25 percent conflicts.
- Knowledge of Realtime experience which provided knowledge and understanding of various modes of communication and needs of deaf and hard of hearing students. Working knowledge of Microsoft applications. Ability and specialized skills to: operate IBM-compatible notebook computer and all peripheral Realtime display devices; demonstrated excellence in computer and all peripheral Realtime display devices; demonstrated excellence in college-level English and spelling skills with broad-based vocabulary; flexibility in scheduling; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and staff. Other specialized skills directly related to the duties of the position may be considered.
Salary & Benefits:
Starting salary is $30.00 per hour.
