Senior Linux Administrator

The Linux Administrator's role is to ensure the stable operation of the in-house and data center computer software systems and network connections. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network software and communication links. The person will also analyze and resolve end user software program and connectivity issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.
Key Responsibilities of the Senior Linux Administrator:
Manage and administer Linux and Windows operating systems and Active Directory
Manager virtual machines running in private and public (AWS) clouds
Maintain Cisco firewalls and all host security activities.
Use tools to monitor and diagnosis website performance and application performance management
Provide on-call technical support, be able to work nights and/or weekends as needed
Assess need for any system reconfigurations (minor or significant) and execute them if required.
Ensure network connectivity, perform network and security audits as well as system backups
Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
Monitor and test server software performance and provide statistics and reports.
Minimum Job Requirements of the Senior Linux Administrator:
BSCIS in the field of computer science or equivalent engineering field or 5 years equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 5 years experience as a System Administrator
Experience working in a production environment
Experience with J2EE server administration and tuning (JBOSS and Tomcat experience preferred)
Strong experience with Linux and open source technologies
VMware ESX or other enterprise level virtualization technologies.
Experience with, but not limited to installing and managing the following: Linux, Apache, Java and Tomcat
Strong knowledge of local area network administration.
Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
Ability to conduct research into software issues and products as required.
Ability to present ideas and solutions in user-friendly language.
Highly self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Strong customer service orientation.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Desired Skill Sets and Requirements of the Senior Linux Administrator:
Advertising or Analytics technology background
Digital content technology background
Experience working in rapidly scaling start-up environments
The Linux Administrator position is a direct hire opportunity with one of our clients in Durham, NC. Target salary range is in the $70,000 - 100,000 range, depending upon overall experience, but there is flexibility on this to get the right person. No sponsorship available.
