Job Description 


Western Dental Services, Inc., California's largest dental services provider and one of the nation's largest dental HMO's, is looking for a bright, motivated, Chief Information Security Officer. This position will establish, maintain and enforce information security strategy, policies, and tactics to protect company information system assets and comply with applicable government regulations, vendor/customer requirements, and industry practices. Western Dental's team consists of over 600 professionals and staff at Western's corporate headquarters in Orange, California and more than 250 dental clinic locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish information security policies and procedures consistent with business goals and regulatory requirements, such as set forth by PCI, HIPPA and state programs
  • Serve as HIPAA Security Officer and oversee the implementation of processes to safeguard personal and patient health information
  • Ensure that Western Dental is compliant with all information security related requirements and meets contemporary applicable best practices
  • Provide technical leadership to the IT department and other relevant parties at Western Dental as it relates to information security, both internal and outside entity facing systems
  • Ensure regular audits and applicable assertions or certifications are obtained as to the compliance of Western Dental with relevant requirements and standards
  • Participate in oversight of the IT department, with an emphasis on information integrity and security
  • Be responsible for service levels, well-being of assigned business areas, vendor utilization, budgets and expenditures, management reports, employee records, and compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Create and lead ad-hoc security teams and/or directly reporting technical security staff (subject to executive approval) to administer and monitor computer and network equipment logs, intrusion prevention, anti-malware, and other data loss prevention systems
  • Oversee threat management and security incident handling, including the coordination of investigations and reporting of security incidents, in alignment with business needs and regulatory requirements
 


Job Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology discipline
  • Recognized information security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, and CISA is required
  • 15 years or more experience in Information Technology, including: 5 years or more in a managerial or project management role related to security, auditing, or compliance. 5 years or more (can overlap with above) extensive hands-on experience creating and administering information security programs to meet regulatory and contractual security requirements
  • Experience with and/or deep understanding of HIPAA, SOX, PCI-DSS, GLBA, FISMA or FIPS, ISO 27001 or SAS70, including feasible response strategies for security related issues
  • Preparation and presentation of security-related information, orally and in writing, to business executives, board members and officers, legal advisors, and vendors; including, communication of the relationships between recommended security measures and incident responses to the company's business goals and objectives
  • Development and delivery of security awareness and training programs
  • Management of external consultants for independent security assessments
  • Interpersonal attributes appropriate for dealing with executives, staff, and public; and, ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships

  • Planning, analyzing and coordinating; organization and budget management; developing and implementing programs and projects
