June 26, 2005
The Board of Directors for the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) voted unanimously to award a new $77 million five-year contract to MV Transportation, Inc. to continue the management and operation of the agency's paratransit program.
MV will begin the new ACCESS LYNX contract October 1. The LYNX/MV paratransit partnership began in 2002 when MV was first selected to manage ACCESS LYNX.
"LYNX looks forward to another five years of working in concert with MV to continually improve Central Florida's transportation for the elderly and disabled," said Linda Watson, Chief Executive Officer of LYNX. "We are excited to have an MV general manager who is very familiar with the LYNX program, the Central Florida community and statewide transportation issues."
MV Director of Government Relations and General Manager Edward Griffin, a former commissioner for the state's Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged and the former LYNX deputy director, will manage the ACCESS LYNX service.
"This is an extremely rewarding opportunity for me because I truly enjoy working with the LYNX staff and have a real affinity for the ACCESS LYNX program," said Griffin, who helped design the service in 2002.
Under the terms of the new contract, MV will provide overall operations and management of transportation services for the elderly, disabled and income restricted riders in a 2500 square-mile service area. MV will provide about 1500 trips a day in a new fleet of vehicles. MV is responsible for reservations, scheduling and dispatching.
"The partnership we share with LYNX sets an example for all other contracts we have across the country," said Jon Monson, MV's Chief Executive Officer. "We are not simply viewed as the contractor, but as an integral part of the LYNX organization."
MV currently operates several contracts throughout Florida in Jacksonville, Palm Beach, Winter Springs, Lake County and the Orlando Airport.
Based in Fairfield, California, MV Transportation is the largest minority and woman-owned privately held transportation management firm in the United States. MV operates more than 140 contracts to provide transit service in 25 states and the District of Columbia. The company employs more than 9,000 transit professionals.
