AutoNation, Inc. (NYSE: AN) is America's largest Automotive Retailer. Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., AutoNation employs approximately 25,000 people at 245 dealership locations representing 323 new vehicle franchises across 16 states. Each AutoNation-owned dealership is a specialty retail business that draws its sales and profits from a diverse mix of retail-related activities. They include:


New Vehicles - About 59% of an automotive dealership's revenue comes from its sales of new vehicles. AutoNation retailed $11.5 billion of new vehicles in 2005-- more than any other single retailer. In all, AutoNation sells vehicles from 37 different manufacturer brands.


Used Vehicles - About 23% of an automotive dealership's revenue comes from its sales of used vehicles. AutoNation sold $4.4 billion worth of used vehicles in 2005 -- more than any other single retailer.


Parts and Service - About 14% of an automotive dealership's revenue comes from servicing vehicles, selling vehicle parts and performing collision repairs and other body work. AutoNation is America's largest provider of factory-authorized vehicle parts and services, generating $2.6 billion of parts and service revenue in 2005 - more than any other single retailer.


Finance and Insurance - About 3% of an automotive dealership's revenue comes from the origination of vehicle financing through third parties and through the sale of insurance and warranty products.

    AutoNation's Business

    Automotive Retail. AutoNation's business consists primarily of the sale, financing and servicing of new and used vehicles. We also provide other related products and services, such as repair and warranty service, parts and accessories, aftermarket automotive products and collision repair services. The core brands of vehicles that we sell, representing approximately 90 percent of the new vehicles that we sold last year, are manufactured or distributed by General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company, DaimlerChrysler Corporation, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., American Honda Motor Co., Inc. and Nissan North America, Inc. We also sell nearly all luxury vehicle brands, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche and Lexus. In total, we offer 39 different brands of vehicles. AutoNation is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

    e-Commerce. AutoNation is the largest retailer of automobiles on the Internet. On AutoNation.com, our primary website, consumers can research and arrange to purchase, finance and insure a new or used vehicle. We offer an on-line inventory of over 100,000 vehicles, primarily from our franchised automotive dealerships.

    The AutoNation Retail Group includes AutoNation's e-Commerce Group, which currently manages - in addition to AutoNation.com - more than 270 web sites throughout the Company's network of franchised automotive dealerships.

    Finance. AutoNation's retailing operations also include AutoNation Financial Services, the Company's captive finance arm, which had securitized assets of more than $1 billion in 2000.
