Quality Insights of Pennsylvania (QIP), an affiliate of the West Virginia Medical Institute (WVMI) since 2002, is the Commonwealth’s federally designated Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) and the lead partner in two grants to establish Health Information Technology Regional Extension Centers (HITRECs) in eastern and western Pennsylvania. Additionally, QIP is one of a handful of qualified Measures Instrument Development Support (MIDS) contractors developing national quality measures for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
QIP is a key partner to Pennsylvania’s health care community. Its team members are professional quality experts and trusted collaborators.
As a Medicare QIO, Quality Insights of Pennsylvania helps health care providers work toward the goal of the right care for every patient every time. QIP is focused on improving patient safety in hospitals and nursing homes and helping physicians who have adopted electronic health records use them to improve patient care. Quality Insights’ team has also led an innovative care transitions project in western Pennsylvania aimed at lowering the rate of avoidable hospitalizations for people with Medicare. Finally, Quality Insights reviews complaints for Medicare beneficiaries who believe they have received poor quality of care and reviews the appeals of those who have had services denied or believe they are being discharged from the hospital too early.
QIP’s staff of approximately 90 employees consists of physicians, RNs, LPNs, data analysts, communications specialists, IT and HIT professionals, and administrative support personnel who are located in offices in Harrisburg and King of Prussia or are home-based within the state.
