Overview Since 1948, the Helen Ross McNabb Center has compassionately provided quality mental health care services to children, adults, and families in Knoxville and East Tennessee. Today it is a regional, not-for-profit integrated system providing mental health, substance abuse, and social services in 20 counties. Teams of psychiatrists, master's level clinicians, nurses, and bachelor's level professionals are available to provide comprehensive, individualized treatment to each client and family.

Founded by Mrs. McNabb, it was the first community mental health center in Tennessee. First opened as an outpatient diagnostic and treatment facility for children, the Center added adult services in 1955. A merger with DRI (Detoxification Rehabilitation Institute) in 1997 enabled the Center to expand substance abuse and dual diagnosis (co-existing mental health and substance abuse problems) services.

Throughout its history the Center's goal has been to provide quality services, guided by an understanding of the community and its needs. Today's challenges are met with the same pioneering spirit shown by Helen Ross McNabb in 1948.
