Overview The Children's Guild, a not-for-profit organization based in Baltimore, Maryland, is an innovator in special education. Using a philosophy called Transformation Education, The Guild brings together a unique educational program, stimulating environments, and an integrated approach to help children with emotional disabilities learn to become successful in life.

The Guild's commitment to children with special needs began in 1953, when it was founded by Sadie Ginsberg, an internationally known children's advocate, Dr. Leo Kanner, the father of child psychiatry and the discoverer of childhood autism, and Dr. Matthew Debuskey, a prominent pediatrician.

Today, The Children's Guild is one of the largest provider of special education day programs in the State of Maryland. The Guild operates three schools located in Baltimore City, Annapolis and Chillum, Maryland. Each School provides provides a myriad of complementary support services for students and their families.

The Guild's school programs are designed to serve boys and girls who exhibit behavior problems too difficult for a public school to manage. Enrollment is limited to children who have a primary diagnosis of emotional disturbance or mental retardation. These programs are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education and licensed by the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The Guild is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Families and its campuses in Baltimore City and Annapolis are accredited by the National Commission accrediting Special Education Services.
