Job Description

Sr. Manufacturing Engineer (Mechanical) ~ Houston, TX



The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for addressing the technical needs of the manufacturing environment so products are manufactured in accordance with the following objectives and focus:  Process Improvement, Product Manufacturability, Safety, Cycle time, Customer Service and Cost Reduction.


General Requirements:

  • Must have a working knowledge of all the equipment that Drilling Controls manufactures.
  • Supports material development mechanical and product design needs.
  • Creates manufacturing routings and work instructions for improved build consistency and quality of product.
  • Provide training to manufacturing associates related to process improvements and use of new tooling/fixturing.
  • Develops time standards for manufacturing processes.
  • Designs tools and fixtures to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Provides budget information for capital equipment expenditures related to tooling, fixturing, and machinery.
  • Investigates and dispositions NCRs (Non-conformance reports) & FPR’s (Field performance reports).
  • Initiates and/or completes redlines (engineering document changes) and ensures proper documentation is implemented to make the necessary drawing changes.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues with product, either in the shop or on location.
  • Assist product engineering with new designs when required, and review new product design prior to introduction to ensure ease of manufacturability.
  • Liaises concerns from shop floor manufacturing to product engineering.
  • Identifies and coordinates the implementation of manufacturing process improvements by designing and/or sourcing needed manufacturing equipment and tooling.
  • Monitors and audits process performances. Participates and, when necessary, leads Lean Six Sigma initiatives. This position will have significant involvement with plant Lean Six Sigma leader.
  • Identifies and initiates cost savings plans for manufacturing existing products in a more cost effective and timely manner, and develops any appropriate AFE (Appropriation For Expenditure) requests, and required supporting documentation, to accomplish the cost savings goal.
  • Seek out, visit and qualify new vendor manufacturing resources from a technical viewpoint as required, and how that resource capability might be transferred to another facility if required.
  • Review vendor pricing as might be required to determine whether the price is proper value for the activity involved.
  • Participate in training programs or courses that would enhance personal job performance or as requested by management.
  • Travel as required to support Manufacturing Engineering objectives and requirements.
  • Works on own initiative with minimum supervision. 
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
  • 5 - 7 Years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Good design and industrial systems engineering background (pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, regulators, etc.).
  • Must be able to develop work aids and/or documentation for products in order to train assembly personnel.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics and specifications.
  • General working knowledge of Microsoft Office and CAD packages.
  • Knowledge of SAP system is a plus.
