Description

Join Itron and use your experience to create and drive new ideas. The Itron team is constantly developing new ways to solve problems that exist today. We are currently looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to help develop a new proprietary substance to help protect electronic components from the natural outdoor elements. The Manufacturing Engineer, with their knowledge of Materials, develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub assemblies and final assemblies. Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products. Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities:

• Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications

• Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables

• Receives instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions.

• Assistance is furnished on unusual problems and work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment

• Performs work which involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment with relatively few complex features for which there are precedents.

• Assignments usually include one or more of the following: equipment design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigations, report preparation, and other activities of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific narrow area of assignments.

• Identifies and collects data of value which relate to our products.

• Analyzes production data to improve our products and manufacturing systems.

• Mentors and coordinates the work of manufacturing and maintenance technicians.

• Maintains updated work instructions and procedures.

• Develops and maintains accurate labor routings.

• Resolves manufacturing and quality problems.

• Recommends and implements process and product changes to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

• Develops and maintains capacity models.

• Ability to understand and apply common manufacturing metrics.

• Utilizes concepts of Continuous Improvement, such as, synchronous flow manufacturing, DOE, SPC, cause-effect mapping, ergonomics and time-motion analysis.

• Develops, designs and specifies equipment to meet business requirements.

• Conduct studies and perform routine research regarding materials or parts needed for design.

• Coordinates changes to products and processes.

• Designs process qualification testing.

• Develops and maintains accurate project plans, timelines and budgets for new and existing programs.

Requirements:

• BS degree in Chemical Process Engineering or Material Science

• Knowledge of Polymer Processing, Mixing and compounding, Rheology, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Statistical Methods

• Experience in Process Design, Scale-Up, Equipment Specification, Failure Analysis, and Lean MFG Principles

• Excellent Communication & Interpersonal skills

• Willing to Travel (25%)
