Job Description

Facilities Project Engineer West Chicago IL

 
OVERVIEW
Execute capital projects for manufacturing facilities and utilities systems: scope development, cost estimation, system design, equipment sizing and selection, procurement, installation, check-out, and start-up.

RESPONSIBILITIES
CAPITAL PROJECT ENGINEERING:
•Lead capital project design, development and execution for facility and utility capital improvements, including all stages of project engineering: scope development, cost estimation, system design, equipment sizing and selection, procurement, installation, check-out, and start-up.
•System focus includes:
oHeating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
oBoilers and low-pressure Steam (up to 150 psi)
oCogeneration
oWater (hot, cold, sanitation, etc.)
oCompressed Air
oOther Mechanical Utilities systems (Vacuum, Hydraulics, Waste Water treatment, etc.)
oBuildings and grounds, including flooring, wall coatings, and roofing.
•Coordinate internal and external engineering and construction resources required for the successful design, installation, and startup of utility and facility capital projects.
FACILITIES AND UTILITIES OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE:
•Leadership in the development and implementation of plant standards, specifications, and best practices programs applicable to the design, operation, and maintenance of the facility and utilities.
•Communication with plant maintenance and other plant departments on facility and utility initiatives and issues.
•Responsible for the efficient and cost effective management of utilities for the site, with an emphasis on energy management.
OTHER:
•Support plant-wide objectives which promote and enhance business value (i.e.: cost, quality, service, productivity, safety, and sustainability).
•Utilize CI (Continuous Improvement) tools and methodologies. Participate in CI teams as appropriate.
•Establish, participate, and leverage internal and external networks to share information, discuss best practices, foster cross-facility problem-solving, and participate in communities of practice across other company facilities, with corporate engineering teams, and externally.
•Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
•BS in Engineering from ABET-accredited program, or PE certification, required.
•5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering environment, and/or capital project engineering for manufacturing systems.
•Demonstrated technical excellence with several of the following facilities and utilities systems:
oHeating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC),
oBoilers and low-pressure Steam (up to 150 psi),
oCogeneration,
oWater (hot, cold, sanitation, etc.),
oCompressed Air,
oOther Mechanical Utilities systems (Vacuum, Hydraulics, Waste Water treatment, etc.).
•Strong demonstrated leadership, influence, communication and interpersonal skills.
•Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, and superior judgment.
•Demonstrated organization skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize while working on multiple programs and projects.
•Ability to function as either a team member or an independent resource, as required.
•Experience working in union environment is a plus.
