Overview Broadlawns Medical Center, as established under the Code of Iowa, has a rich history of nearly 80 years of “Caring for Our Community™” of Polk County. While the name of the facility has changed over the years the care and compassion for the needs of the whole family have remained constant.

Today, Broadlawns Medical Center is comprised of:

  • An acute care hospital serving medical, surgical, pediatrics and psychiatric patients,
  • A fifty member physician practice overseeing numerous clinics and outpatient services,
  • A Family Practice Residency Program offering numerous clinics and outpatient services, and
  • A center where grant funded programs of a clinical and human services nature can flourish.

Broadlawns Medical Center is located ten minutes from the heart of downtown Des Moines and is easily accessible from I-235 and Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway. Broadlawns Medical Center is also served by the area transit service, MTA.

Broadlawns Medical Center is funded through a variety of sources. The largest portion of the revenue comes from the Polk County property tax levy. In addition, Broadlawns Medical Center receives funds from Medicare, Medicaid, federal and state grant programs, contracts and private donations.
